Medium-sized Evergreen trees; branchlets terete, lenticellate, pubescent, glabrescent, blackish when dry; buds perulate, scales imbricate, glabrous or yellowish-brown pilose, newly sprouted Leaves pale yellowish-green.
Leaves oblong-lanceolate, oblong to oblanceolate, 7-14 cm long, 2.5-3.5 cm broad, chartaceous, acute to acuminate at apex, obtuse at summit, cuneate, acute rarely obtuse at base, entire, glabrous, rather dull opaque above, pale green, somewhat glaucescent beneath, puberulent when young, midrib slightly impressed above, elevated beneath, lateral veins 7-14 pairs, glabrous above, slightly pubescent beneath, glabrescent, veinlets obscure; petioles 1-1.5 cm long, pubescent, becoming glabrescent.
Inflorescence cymose panicles, terminal or subterminal, pubescent; peduncles 10-18 cm long; involucral bracts obovate, orbicular at apex, caducous; pedicels 3 mm long, pubescent; receptacles tomentose outside, villose inside, 0.3-0.8 mm long; tepals 6, subequal, ovate, oblong to oblanceolate, 3.7 mm long, 1.7 mm broad, obtuse at apex, pubescent on both surfaces, entire, ciliate; fertile stamens 9, adnate to base of tepals, 1st and 2nd whorles of stamens eglandular, filaments 1.7 mm long, glabrous, anthers 4-celled, ellipsoidal, introrse, 1.3 mm long, 3rd whorl glandular, 2.2 mm long, glabrous but villose at base, stalked glands 2, at base of filaments, 0.5 mm long, stalks 1 mm long, villose, anthers 4-celled, extrorse, 1.3 mm long, 4th whorl staminodes, sagittate, 1.5 mm long, barbate at base; ovary glabrous, ovoid, 1.1 mm long, styles 2.5 mm long, glabrous, stigma flimsy, 3-lobed.
Berry compressed-globose, black, 7-8 mm across with persistent reflexed enlarged tepals; stalks brightly red.
